Salt Lake Software Symposium; June 22-23

I just came across the Salt Lake Software Symposium being held this Friday and Saturday (22nd-23rd). While it is mainly a Java focused conference they have a lot of really applicable stuff for any type of developer: Object-Relational Mapping with Hibernate, Killer JavaScript Frameworks, The Google Web Toolkit, Building Teams-Not Products, 10 Ways to Improve Your Code, Domain Driven Design, etc.

Regular registration is $850 but group discounts for as little as 5 people can be had for $750. I was wondering if we could get a group of 5 folks (myself and 4 other people) who would be interested in attending this conference right here in our own backyard (and save each other a little cash).

It’s being held at

Marriott Salt Lake City University Park 480 Wakara Road Salt Lake City, Utah 84108

CodeAway Was Packed!

This month, we hit the capacity for our little house for CodeAway. Mike, Marleigh and I played with the furniture after everyone left and we figured out a way for four more people to come and sit, but we’re at our maximum right now. If you’re uncomfortable sitting closely to someone showing them what you’re working on, then it might have been a bit much for you this time. If you are interested in lively conversation and great ideas, then CodeAway is perfect.

Thom Allen and Ash Buckles attended CodeAway for the first time this month. Thom wrote a great writeup with a photo here:

Once again, I forgot to take any pictures or video. When it’s at my house, I end up going into hostess mode, which totally breaks my brain. There are so many things I forgot (or almost forgot) yesterday. Most importantly, we had a fun time. The wi-fi worked without a hitch because Mike tested it the day before. The pizzas arrived quickly. People brought treats and soda to share. It was just a lot of fun for me. I hope it was for everyone else as well.
